
Emma is a writer, journalist, and teacher. Her essays and literary nonfiction have appeared in Huffpost, No Tokens, and PRISM, among other publications. Her writing has received various awards, including an honorable mention in The Best American Essays anthology, and fellowships from Phillips Exeter Academy and Lighthouse Writers’ Workshop. Her journalism has appeared in Outside, Runner’s World, The Boston Globe, The Maine Monitor, Women’s Running, Trail Runner, Taproot Magazine, and more. She has covered topics that range from sports and the outdoors, to health, gender, sexuality, reproductive justice, and the environment. Emma holds a BA in Political Science and Environmental Studies from Grinnell College, and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from NYU, where she also taught undergraduate creative writing. She was the 2023-24 George Bennett Fellow (writer-in-residence) at Phillips Exeter Academy, and she currently lives and teaches in Maine.
Her debut book, Body Songs: a memoir of Long Covid, Chronic Illness, and Unconventional Recovery, is forthcoming from Penguin in January 2027.
